Former Marana High School students arrested after making Facebook threats

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) – Two former Marana High School students have been arrested on charges relating to threats they allegedly left on their Facebook wall.

Otis Bartley and Jake Brown, both 18 years old, were charged with making threats and interfering with an educational facility, Marana Police spokesman Sgt. Tim Brunenkant said. Both of the charges are misdemeanors.

The students were arrested for writing “MHS RIP,” “learn to run,” “bring band aids” and “Marana won’t know what hit them tomorrow” on their Facebook walls, Brunenkant said.

A Facebook friend of the suspects saw the threats on the wall and notified their parents, who in turn called police at about 9 p.m. Monday.

Officers interviewed Bartley and Brown, who said they planned to show up at Marana High sometime Tuesday. A search of the suspect’s home found nothing to “indicate a threat could be carried out,” Brunenkant said.

They told police they intended the messages to be a “joke.”

Both men were arrested. Jake Brown has been released but Otis Bartley is still detained as of Tuesday morning.

Marana Police notified Marana High School of the incident. Three to four officers are still on campus as a precaution, Brunenkant said.
